Tories 'sleepwalking into a teaching crisis'

A new report by the Education Policy Institute shows that the number of teachers is reaching critically low levels. 'We are sleepwalking into a teaching crisis,' says Layla Moran MP, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Education, Science and Young People, herself a former physics teacher.

The report found a partiular defecit in the numbers of maths and science teachers, which undermines the government's approach to industrial strategy which seeks to promote UK research and development, and which calls for schools to teach and promote more science and technical skills.
