Croydon Labour - Housing For The Few, Not The Many

Labour controlled Croydon Council are selling public land, ‘Brick by Brick’.

Zero affordable rent

  • The six sites in being developed by ‘arms-length’ council-owned BxB in our ward will deliver ZERO affordable rented homes.
  • Of the 113 units being built, a whopping 83% will be sold into the private sector.
  • just 19 units on Auckland Rise are to be for shared ownership in the whole of Crystal Palace and Upper Norwood.

It’s little better across the rest of the borough with only 8% of proposed developments to be affordable rented housing.

How is this helping those in need, who struggle to keep a roof over their head and can only dream of affording the homes replacing our cherished council stock?

Oxford road site, once home for vulnerable families in the ‘short term’ (up to 4 years) has been vacant for 9 months.  We are still waiting for the Council to say what became of the tenants.

Claire, Chris and Guy know that Selling our land is a big mistake.  Properly managed council housing gives a steady income stream which we could spend on improved community policing and rubbish clearance.

Liberal Democrat-led council in neighbouring Sutton are building 93 new council homes across three sites -we should be doing this here.

We deserve better in Crystal Palace and Upper Norwood.
