I've spent much of my life in the teaching profession, notably as an FE College lecturer at Hounslow and Hammersmith colleges. I began my career as a secondary school teacher in Southampton and have also been a personal tutor. Currently, I'm a writer of fiction.
I've been a member of the Liberal Democrats for a number of years. I was a councillor in Lambeth between 1994 and 1998 and then 2002 to 2006. In addition, I was a candidate for the European Parliament in London.
I've lived in South London for over 30 years, first coming to London to help in the famous Croydon North West by-election in October 1981.
Remaining in the EU
I recognise that many people in Croydon North voted to stay in the EU in last year's referendum and their voices need to be heard. Many did not vote for a Hard Brexit or the incompetence we have right now. I feel the rise of Donald Trump has added to a toxic backdrop in world politics.
This election will be about Brexit, but it is also about getting good MPs to support and represent you. We need people working with the community. I will be a local MP for local people, making sure you have an effective voice in Parliament.
My interests outside politics include foreign travel – especially countries of the former Yugoslavia – reading, going to the cinema and the restoring old aircraft.
