Standing as Councillor for South Norwood
I have lived in Crystal Palace for 4 years and in London for 6 years. With 15 years experience working in the voluntary sector, I have worked to champion the causes of children, those affected by crime, people experiencing homelessness, older people and overseas development. I am passionate about enabling local communities to be the solutions to their local issues and in the power of volunteering to change communities, and am currently the strategic lead for volunteering for The Salvation Army across the UK and Ireland.
In my spare time I volunteer to support victims of human trafficking and sing with a London-based choir. I enjoy baking and following most sports, and can often be found at The Oval during the cricket season or at Selhurst Park on a Saturday.
Labour have taken this area for granted for too long. If elected I will campaign to empower the local community by ensuring that planning decisions are taken with real local input and for improved local services. This doesn’t necessarily mean money but more imagination. I will aim to work collaboratively wherever possible, for example we have recycling facilities located in close by in next door boroughs but can’t use them, not surprising since Croydon has closed off its own facilities to other borough residents without discussion. You now need more ID to use a Croydon bottle bank than open a bank account.
